At Cocochoco, we sometimes receive questions from people about why their Cocochoco treatment did not last as long as it should, or why the change in hair is not as good as they had hoped. Most of these questions come from people who have not done training with Cocochoco, as results have shown that stylists trained to be certified Cocochoco specialist are 75% more likely to successfully apply the treatment versus people who have not received training. As our product requires a lot of technical knowledge for successful results, there are a few common mistakes both stylists and clients make during and after the treatment.
Stylist mistakes include:
- The Hair was not prepared correctly for the Keratin Treatment application, that means Cocochoco Clarifying Shampoo was not used prior to the application or was not left on the hair for adequate amount of time.
2. The product was not fully blow-dried into the hair before the straightening process began
3. Not applying enough product to the hair
4. The temperature of the straightener was too low for the hair type, meaning the product did not totally melt properly into the clients hair
5. The straightener was not passed over the hair enough times
6. The sections of the hair that were straightened were too thick, meaning the heat did not penetrate all the way through the section of hair
7. The straightener was passed over the hair too quickly
8. The straightener was not appropriate for the treatments. We recommend using straighteners that have titanium plates, have fast heat recovery, and the temperature can be manually set. After testing many different brands and straighteners, here at Cocochoco we have found Corioliss to be the most effective brand of straightener to use with our products. In our own salon we use the Corioliss Wide Black Zebra Straightener model. And even better, we now have this straightener in stock in our online store!
Client mistakes include:
1. Allowing too much moisture into the hair during the first 72 hours after application, for example if their hair got wet, or was exposed to steam or excessive amounts of sweat
2. The client did not blowdry and straighten the hair immediately after it got wet during the first 72 hours
3. Client used the wrong after care products. This is one of the biggest mistakes clients make, because they often don’t understand how important proper aftercare is. Any aftercare (shampoo, conditioner, masks, etc.) for keratin treatment must be sulphate-free, but should also be designed as a support for the keratin treatment, which is why we recommend using only Cocochoco aftercare products. Regular sulphate free shampoos can wash the keratin treatment out of the hair very quickly, because there may be other ingredients in these products to replace the sulphates that have been removed to make it ‘sulphate free’. 4. Client did not wait full 72 hours after the treatment before washing the hair
So, if you are a stylist performing Cocochoco treatments, be sure to watch out for these common mistakes, and make sure your client knows how to properly maintain the treatments.
